They know you

We unnecessarily vilify the social network facebook and Mr.Zuckerberg. In fact google and Mr.Sundar Pichai knows much more about you than Facebook ever will.

If you don't believe me, just go to myaccount.google.com and see the details there. Google knows that you browsed about how to renew your vehicle insurance. In the year 2018. It also knows where were you - each day, since the day you were born. Or at least since you started using google.

But let me admit, today I saw a feature called autodelete for browser history and location history. Please use it.

And google knows about your family and friends. And all the personal information about them. It also knows what videos you watch, which videos you search, which you like, which you dislike.

So, ladies if you worry that nobody understands you, stop worrying. Google understands you. May be little bit too much.

But what about the ISP - internet service providers? Don't they have your call history, your search history too? We see in all crime TV shows, how government collects information about suspects using their mobile numbers.

Let me come to the main point - yesterday when we were trying to talk to our DTH helpline, the helpline was talking to us in Bengali. Was there an option to continue in English, we wouldn't know. We struggled for 4-5 hours and finally able to talk to customer service person.

He didn't know anything about this language issue. He said our primary language was set as Kannada not Bengali.

So I thought a call to ISP helpline - I am not going to tell their name, is needed. I called and followed a rigmarole of pressing 1 for language, 2 for pre-paid mobile, etc, etc. Finally when I could talk to an actual person and explained him the situation, he flatly refused to accept their fault saying it is must be the error of DTH provider. Then I gave the second complaint about very very frequent call drops. He registered the complaint.

Next day, I received a message acknowledging the complaint. And within the next 2-3 hours, received another message saying that as our area was facing some congestion, there might have been call drops and now they have fixed the problem.

Wow, so simple, isn't it. Except for the question that how long is this congestion going on? 6 days or 6 months or 6 years?

But if this pandemic has really taught us anything - it is to accept the things we can't change. Like our dependence on these people. Because we are not willing to live off the grid, we do need mobile network, we do need internet and google. So live with its shortcomings and snoopings.
