Inventing Anna

Do you remember Ruth from Ozark - the super strong orphan who has mouth like a knife but who is somehow holding back her tears. She is Anna in the Netflix series "Inventing Anna".

Anna says she is a German heiress whose trust fund money will arrive soon, and her father is super rich. She also says her father does not love her because she is not a son. 

Her boyfriend is famous tech person Chase whose startup Wake is supposed to revolutionize your dreams and will help you dig deep into your subconscious and utilize the concepts from there. He travels all over the country pitching his idea and searching for investors. Anna helps him with her straight talk - what appears to be straight talk. And in turn, she spends plenty of his money for her dresses and shoes. 

These things are unraveled by Vivian - a journalist who is trying to rebuild her reputation. She was assigned a metoo story from wallstreet, but she fights for this story and gets 15 days time for it. Poor Vivian, not only does she have to fight for her story in her office, but she also has a very hostile main person of the story - Anna in prison. And Vivian is very pregnant too.

Anna keeps commenting on Vivian's appearance. She asks "Are you really this fat, or is it because you are pregnant". And she has so many demands from Vivian. And she is unwilling to give the names of any of her associates or friends.

Chase and Anna were house guests of super rich Nora. But Anna has no loyalty. She convinces Nora to invest in here ADF - Anna Delvey Fund - which some kind of artistic establishment. Then she also steals thirty thousand dollars from Nora using her credit card. Nora doesn't press charges may be because she feels it will be an insult to her that her guest turned to be a fraud. But Vivian extracts the story from her.

Chase disappears into thin air, neither Anna nor his employees know where he is. And he doesn't know anything about the programming behind his app, he doesn't care and he doesn't pay. Anna goes in search of him to his parents' house where he reveals that he has no money at all now.

Here Vivian catches hold of an employee of a hotel Neff who was a loyal friend of Anna. Neff tells her the story about Anna's generosity tipping everyone with hundred dollar bills when she ways staying in that hotel. 

She befriends Neff and takes her to parties, saunas, parlors. Neff can't believe that she was visiting all these places.

But this doesn't last long. In one such restaurant visit, Anna is informed that her card has been declined. She gives another card, which also is declined. Neff steps in pays the bill - there by losing all the tip money she obtained from Anna. There by sending goodbye to her dream of making her own film. 

Anna is ready with her story - she will receive money from her father. It will take some time for money to arrive from Europe etc, etc. 

But Neff is told by her manager that Anna has not given her credit card details to the hotel and she has a huge outstanding bill. Neff asks for credit card with no positive response.

Anna is turned out of the hotel, she begs them to let her collect her bags, but she is denied entry into her room. 

Wow, a genius in the making. Using all that brain to cheat and defraud others!
