Our changing times

 We live in a very interesting time. Yes, I know this adjective is too positive for the scenario. But my vocab is not very vast. 

The great America, the dream of every poor person in the world, the nation where we can become someone has denied the women rights over their bodies. Why, because religion does not accept abortion. Because life is precious etc etc. 

Regressive - to say the least.

This event is not the only aberration.  All over the world, the schism between the left and the right, between conservatives and liberals is so large that it may split nations and wound them irrevocably. 

There were always power hungry politicians whose outward ideology was this or that. (Inwards it was money and power.)

 But common man was neutral. He told I don't know about any ideology and I don't care. These ideologies will not buy my bread and butter. Give me a roof over my head and 2 meals a day. That's it. Roti, kapda aur makaan. That's all I am worried about.

Now, it's different. Common men and women are full of ideologies (some are liberal and many more are conservative) and so convinced that their ideology is right that they are willing to go to any lengths for their cause, their ideologies and their leaders. And funnily enough they don't worry about basic needs that much.

And the worst part is this fight is going to affect many more generations to come. We already are less tolerant, less empathetic, less benevolent than our previous generations. And our children, they will not know these terms at all. 

What can we do? As our scriptures say "kaalaya tasmai namaha". 

And add to this the problem of our limited 'rights'. I keep thinking about the cliched saying "In a democracy, all are equal. But some are more equal than others". I would like to add my revision. "Some democracies are more democratic than others".

I see all these late night show hosts of USA who comment, ridicule, and analyze their governments, their ruling parties, their oppositions and institutions. Every day. They make fun of their president too. What would happen, if a similar shows are aired in other democratic countries? What names they will be called by common men and women (names initiated by lap dogs aka media)? What different cases will be filed on them? 

Yes, some democracies are different than others.
