Liar Liar

 Liar, liar, pants on fire...

No, no, I am not talking about politicians. I am a really bheeru person - scared of my own shadow and won't have the audacity to talk about high and mighty. 

I am talking about the ones who rhyme with the word and keep up the meaning too. Lawyers. 

Have started watching 'Boston Legal'. Apparently these lawyer firm American TV series are quite popular. As was the TV series.

May be as suing and lawyering are quite lucrative in that America, there are many many TV shows on that copy. Suits, Law and Order (which I haven't seen in streaming services in India), The Good Wife, Better call Saul. To name a few.

I really liked the show "The good wife". But I didn't like its title. It is all lawyery - but why the title. Should a good wife keep defending her husband - the promiscuous husband even when he is in jail for cheating? Why couldn't the title have been 'The good lawyer'? 

So Boston Legal. The show is funny that way. Too many senior lawyers. One lawyer comes to office without his pants. 

The other one Denny Crane, forgets his argument in court - instead attacks the judge personally and lands in jail for contempt. He is having early stage Alzheimer disease, so keeps repeating his name. But his reputation is so strong that that names itself wins the cases. 

Another lawyer - Alan Shore, asks his assistant to extracts information about a gullible witness using her charms, then blackmails him into not testifying. 

And yet another one - with a little bit of conscience, argues that the bullet in her client's chest not be removed. Because that would have proved that he was in a store robbery. 

But lying might be a professional hazard for them. Because most paying customers are guilty - and if these lawyers don't defend them, they may have to starve and not have the luxurious lifestyle they deserve. Or worse, they may not even be able to repay their student loans.  

Aha, so much knowledge I have gained by watching many many soaps about a profession, I have never seen in reality, occurring in a country which can't be any more different from ours. 

Good, lord, talk about useless knowledge! If at all you can call this knowledge!
