Intelligence of a machine

In a day and age, when no one reads anything except for memes and subtitles, the little bit of knowledge we bloggers offer is also snatched away by AI - artificial intelligence - aka non-human intelligence.

But is the machine really intelligent?

I took up the task of verification. My original intention was not to find out the smartness of a machine.

I always talk to chatGPT for my various problems and some times the answers are too generic. Most of the times.

After one such a question answer session, I casually asked AI, can it solve mathematical puzzle. It was glad to have an intelligence audience for once, I think. And it readily said yes.

I asked hexagon puzzle from my blog post.  It solved it for me. By the way, the puzzle involved inscribed and circumscribed hexagons in a circle and their areas.

Next I asked it to create a geometric puzzle for me. It kept on generating similar puzzles with polygons inscribed and circumscribed in a circle. Again and again.

I asked it to change the subject and give me a number puzzle.

After repeated tries, it gave me non-cliched puzzle which involved the ages of father, mother and two children. Had three equations and was kind of convoluted. I tried a little bit and then gave up. I looked at AI's solution.

The solution was father's age 36, mother age = 6

I pointed the ridiculousness of the answer - mother at an age of 6. It agreed that the idea is ridiculous. (You also might have noticed that chatGPT most often agrees to most things we say.)

The conclusion is we humans are much better (at least in finding faults in others' solutions) and AI has a long - very long distance to go before it can beat our "intelligence".

What do you think?
