Happy family

You guys remember the TV comedy of yester years - Khichadi? The serial was filled with silly little cute people, who were dumb and innocently funny. You couldn't help loving them.

I remember one particular quote -" Acha hua, aaj mangalvar hai. Kyonki mangalvar Babuji kisika hatya nahi karte".

Of course poor babuji will not kill, even a fly - on any day. It was funny like that.

Now I am seeing a similar silly show called - "Happy family - conditions apply" in Prime video. It has all stars from yesteryear - Ratna Pathak Shah, Raj Babar, Ayesha Jhulka etc. And the dialogues are slightly funny.

But it is as superficial as a news prime time debate. Of course without all the shouting and screaming and killer instincts.

When Tisca - the daughter in law of the house tells her sister in law that she has a big secret - I assumed she and her husband are separating. Turns out they are separating from this huge noisy joint family. By the way what type of name is Tisca - what does it mean? In any language?

When the chacha who has settled in US is trying to announce some thing over a skype call - we think that he is gay and coming out quite late in life. Turns out he is just married - not to a gori - but to  a African lady.

Do these rich, champagne guzzling, 4 BHK house in Bandra people, still get shocked about their kids wanting to live separately with his wife, or their son wanting to marry a non-Indian? Which era this show is from? Quite hard to digest.

But we watch so many ridiculous shows in the name of comedy - why not our "Indian" show with cute, silly characters - like chemist dad who wants to advice every one about medicine and willing to give them free tablets. A  beer drinking dadi who doesn't want to see saas-bahu serial, but wants to watch hot young men in a fashion show. Like selfie obsessed mom who wants to take a group selfie even when they visit police station.
