Yesterday I had planned to write about fear as a tool used by those in power - and those who want to hold on to power. I even collected some quotes and verses on this concept.

So it is like this - make them afraid -  make them very afraid - they dare not lift their head or breathe loudly. Make them believe that any moment they may lose their life or livelihood or something very dear to them. Then they will "behave".

Is it not how rulers have controlled the masses all these days.

Now Mamata's party is split, Arvind's party is split. How, by instilling the fears of jail time, frozen accounts, media circus and finally being irrelevant.

The same tools are used by rulers in many many other countries. Democracy is made into a joke.

The same fear as a control tool is used by even in our societies, in families too.  By neighbors, by spouses, by parents.

Ok, enough about fear. Another new concept - schadenfreude! Aha, Tharoor kind of word! Here is its meaning.

schadenfreude
/ˈʃɑːd(ə)nˌfrɔɪdə/
noun
pleasure derived by someone from another person's misfortune.

Knowing how insecure we are, most of us might display this.

"Serves him/her right!" - "Karma is a b****h" How often we hear this or utter this when some one we are not fond of faces difficulties. And even our family members.

I used to wonder how all these good people - very decent and kind hearted men and women are justifying minority vilification and persecution.

But again, this could be fear - spread by whatsapp universities, misinformations and fake news. These people will take your land, your women, your money, even your lives. You might have heard about rumors of fruits being licked by fruit sellers to spread Covid.

Do you know what the founder of CJP was saying other day - his mother was crying when he decided to return to India. She was certain he will be jailed.

Fear will certainly silence most of us in such situations.
