The Grapes of wrath
The grapes of wrath - a story of farmers in distress. No, not set in India, but in far away America.
Due to Dust bowl, the fields are covered with very thick layers of dust. Which is not letting any crop to grow. And the land owners are forcing the tenants out, as they are not able to pay the money. And these thousands of farmers are moving to California - in search of a future. Selling any thing they can to get some money.
Tom Joad is not one of them. He, instead is walking home and does not know about this great migration. He is recently let out of prison on parole. He was in prison for four years for homicide.
His travel mate is Casy - who was a preacher, who now no longer is. And is in a lot of confusion regarding all God and religion. He decides to walk along with Tom to his home.
When they do reach Tom's home, they find it abandoned. Which worries and scares Tom. What happened to his family, where are they? His parents, his grand parents? His brothers and sisters?
Muley arrives here and tells them the whole story of land lords and their atrocities. He tells John that his folks have gone to his Uncle John's house.
So goes the story. You wonder at the natural calamities, and human cruelty in these circumstances.
A Pulitzer prize winning master piece by John Steinback.
